If you have not received your refund till date, it could be due to the following reasons:
1. Your Income Tax Return has not been processed yet. Once the return is processed you may receive a Refund (if determined).
2. Your Income Tax Return has been processed but the Income Tax Department has determined no refund.
3. Your Income Tax Return has been processed and a refund has been determined, but the Cheque/ ECS credit could not reach you.
This could be because of: wrong address, not being available at home (door locked) or wrong Bank Account number for ECS credit.
The status of refund can be checked either from :
- The income tax e-filing portal.
- The NSDL website
1 . The IT Portal:
Step 1: Visit the income tax e-filing portal and login to your Account (https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home)
Step 2: Click on “View Returns / Forms”
Step 3: Enter “Income Tax Returns” against “Select an option”
Step 4: Click on the acknowledgement number for the relevant Assessment year.
Step 5: The income tax refund status appears as highlighted in the below screenshot
The NSDL Portal:
Step 1: Visit the NSDL website for checking of the refund status (https://www.tin-nsdl.com/)
Step 2: Go to Services –>Status of Tax Refunds –>Status of Income Tax Refunds
Step 3: The below screen appears where you can feed in details of your PAN, the AY and the image appearing in the screen and then click on “Submit”. And the status of refund will be viewed.
